Advanced options in timing points

The following video shows how to configure the different advanced options of timing points: minimum and maximum times, backups and the reading detection mode.

ℹ️ This video was recorded with an earlier version of Copernico; some screens may look different today.

1. Opening the advanced options

In the race configuration, expand the event and, in the Timing points section, click the pencil icon of the timing point you want to configure. The Advanced editor opens with all the options of the timing point.

These advanced options change depending on the configuration of the timing point. For example, if the timing point is a lap, the lap time from the previous lap is also shown. And if you add a backup line, its fields appear.

2. General fields

The general options in the Advanced editor of any timing point are:

  • The name of the timing point (Name).
  • The location used by the timing point (Physical location).
  • The timing point type (Type). More information in Types of timing points.

Standard timing points also show the distance field of the timing point.

The minimum and maximum time options are below.

3. Minimum and maximum times

Times are entered in hh:mm:ss format. There are three options:

  • Time from the start (Overall time): minimum time from the start time, from which readings start to be valid (Min. time), and maximum time (Max. time).
  • Time from the previous timing point (Gap time (from previous timing point)): minimum (Min. gap time) and maximum (Max. gap time) time from the previous timing point. For example, if you edit the km 6 timing point, you can set a minimum time from the start of the race or from the previous timing point.
  • Lap time: when there are laps, in lap timing points you can set a minimum and a maximum lap time from the previous lap.

This gives you three systems to ensure that the minimum and maximum times are correct: from the start of the clock, from the previous lap and from the previous timing point.

4. Backups

If necessary, you can set up one or more backup lines in the Advanced editor, in the Backups section (+ button):

  • Choose the backup location (Location). It is chosen from the list of race locations, so you must have created it beforehand.
  • Indicate whether it is before (Before) or after (After) the main timing point (Backup location).
  • Indicate the difference in seconds from the timing point (Distance from timing point).

If there is no reading at the main timing point, the timing point time will be the backup reading, plus or minus that difference.

More information in Setting up backups.

5. Detection mode

The last option in the Advanced editor is Detection mode, which lets you choose whether the timing point uses the participant's first reading (First reading) or last reading (Last reading). All timing points have the same options: Default, first reading and last reading.

Default is always selected. This default value uses the last reading for start timing points and the first reading for all other timing point types (standard, finish and call room). If you do not select anything, it will always work like this.

If you want a timing point to use a different system, open Detection mode and select the reading you want to use; for example, the last reading at an intermediate timing point.

6. Video transcript

Let's look at two new features within the advanced configuration of timing points [today, Advanced editor]. The first new feature is that we can now set a minimum and maximum time from the previous timing point. The second new feature is that we will be able to select the type of detection for the readings and use the first or the last reading at all timing points.

We will have the same options: default, first and last reading. If we leave it as default, for starts the last reading will always be used. For standard timing points, finish line or call room, the first reading will always be used by default. If you want to change the type of detection at a timing point, we just have to go to the advanced menu and, in detection [today, Detection mode], select the one we want, changing, for example, to the last reading at an intermediate point.
