You can create a race in Copernico from scratch or by importing a race that already exists in Sportmaniacs; to do so, you must first have created it in Sportmaniacs. You can also re-import the configuration from Sportmaniacs into an existing race as many times as you need. All the ways to create a race are explained in Creating a race in Copernico.
This article explains how to import the race when you create it and how to re-import it into a race that already exists.
✅ Recommendation: when you create the race in Sportmaniacs, make sure you configure the categories, waves and timing points of each event of your race.
1. When you create the race
- On Races, click Add competition and search for the competition, as explained in Creating a race in Copernico.
- If the competition exists in Sportmaniacs, the Competition already exists — Do you want to import competition data from Sportmaniacs into Copernico? dialog appears when the creation screen opens. Click Yes: the configuration is filled in with the Sportmaniacs data, without logging in or choosing the race. Go to step 6.
- If the dialog does not appear, or you want to import a different race, click the Import race from Sportmaniacs button in the button column on the right.
- The first time, enter your Sportmaniacs user and password and click Log in. Copernico remembers the session, so the next times you go straight to the list of races; to use a different account, click Change user.
- Find and select in the list the race you want to import into Copernico (each race shows its name and date) and click Yes in the Import races dialog.
- The creation screen shows the race information and the events configured in Sportmaniacs. Delete the events you do not need for this race, change the names if necessary and check that all the information is correct.
- Click Save. The race dashboard opens.
2. Re-import into an existing race
If the race configuration changes in Sportmaniacs, you can import it again into the Copernico race as many times as you need.
- Open the race setup (Race screen) and click the Reimport race from Sportmaniacs button in the button column on the right. It is just above the Import race from Copernico button; do not confuse them.
- If needed, log in to Sportmaniacs (as in step 4 of the previous section) and select the race.
- Click Yes in the Import races dialog.
- The date window opens. Original dates shows the From and To dates of the race. To use different dates, enter the New start date under New dates; the New end date is filled in automatically and you can change it. Check the date suggested for each event, clear the events you do not want to import and click Import. If you do not change the dates, the original dates are kept. See Import configuration of another Copernico race for details.
- The configuration is loaded into the form and the race name is kept. Review it, change it if needed and click Save.
⚠️ Important: the re-import is not applied until you click Save. If you leave the screen without saving, the race stays as it was.
⚠️ Important: importing replaces the race configuration you have previously set up. When you re-import into an existing race, its name is kept.
ℹ️ Note: the names you assign to events in Copernico will then appear in both Live and reports.
ℹ️ Note: there must be at least one wave per event, although you can modify it later. It is also essential that you include the race categories: without them, nothing will appear on Live.
ℹ️ Note: Copernico will have generated the splits from the timing points configured in Sportmaniacs. Check them.
Once the race is imported and saved, you can continue with the rest of its configuration.
