Linked races in Copernico

The process of creating and linking races between Copernico and Sportmaniacs is straightforward ✅, but it is important to understand how the different environments work and what race linking implies.

1. Basic principle

Regardless of whether the race is created in Copernico or Sportmaniacs, you must always check first if the race already exists.

In Copernico, the check is part of race creation: on Races, click Add competition and, in the test environment warning, click Continue. Type the competition name in the search box: you will see the matching competitions and the platforms where each one exists.

Add competition search with the results and the platforms where each competition exists (Exists in)

If you choose to create a competition from scratch, the platform shows the ⚠️ Be careful! warning, reminding you to do this only if the competition does not exist on any of our platforms. See Creating a race in Copernico for the full procedure.

2. Race environments

A single race can exist in one or more of the following environments:

  • cloud
  • kiosk
  • commentator
  • copernico-live
  • copernico
  • sportmaniacs
  • rankings

In the Add competition search, each competition shows the platforms where it exists (Exists in), with names such as ts-cloud, race-app-config, copernico, copernico-live or sportmaniacs. In the Races list, hovering over a race shows the icons of its active services (for example, Sportmaniacs, Rankings, Commentators or Organizer).

3. Example: race created in several environments

Skoda Titan Desert Almería 2022

This race exists in:

  • cloud
  • kiosk
  • commentator
  • copernico-live
  • copernico
  • sportmaniacs

4. Example: race created in partial environments

ZTAs 37th Annual Franklin 5k

This race only exists in:

  • cloud
  • sportmaniacs

From Copernico, the race can be linked to the existing Sportmaniacs race without creating duplicates: search for it in the Add competition window and select it. The race you create in Copernico is linked to that competition. If the competition already has a race in Copernico, no new race is created: the existing one opens.

ℹ️ Note: linking does not copy the data. If the competition exists in Sportmaniacs, Copernico asks Competition already exists — “Do you want to import competition data from Sportmaniacs into Copernico?”. Accept to import its configuration, or decline to start from scratch. You can import it later with the Import race from Sportmaniacs button.

5. What does race linking imply?

Linking is used for:

  • Mobile applications (Live App)
  • Shared general race information

At app and informational data level, the race behaves as a single event.

6. What is not affected by linking?

Linking does not affect:

  • Live Web
  • Rankings

Live Web and Rankings are linked directly from Copernico when they are activated or published.

7. Linking by service type

  • Live Web: future races can be linked. On the Live screen (LIVE button in the race header), click Link race, log in to Sportmaniacs if prompted and choose the race from the list of upcoming races. Then publish the events.
  • Rankings: past races can be linked. In Rankings publisher, click Link race and choose the race from the list of past Sportmaniacs races. Rankings are uploaded to that race when you publish (Upload to Sportmaniacs). See Copernico cloud for more information.

If no race is linked yet, None yet is shown. If a race is already linked, the button reads Change linked Race.

8. Final recommendations

  • Always search for the race by name before creating a new one.
  • Check which environments the race already exists in.
  • Link existing races instead of duplicating them ✅.

To understand why each competition exists only once across all platforms, see Single Platform Race Setup.
