You can create a race in Copernico in three different ways:
- By creating a race from scratch.
- By importing an existing race from Copernico.
- By importing an existing race from Sportmaniacs.
In all three cases you start the same way: by adding the competition from the races list.
Contents
1. Add the competition
- On Races, click Add competition.
- Copernico reminds you that a free test environment is available. Click Continue to create the competition, or Go to test environment if you only want to test.
- In the window that opens, type the name of the competition in the top field. Below, the recent competitions are listed and, as you type, the ones matching the name, with the platforms where they already exist (for example, Sportmaniacs).
- Choose one of these options:
- The competition already exists (for example, in Sportmaniacs): select it in the results. Copernico opens the race creation screen with its name. If the competition already has a race in Copernico, its page opens.
- The competition does not exist on any platform: click the button at the bottom right of the window to create a new one. The Be careful! warning appears: use this option only when the competition does not exist on any of our platforms. Click Continue.
The Create new race screen opens. The race is not created until you click Save.
2. Create a race from scratch
- Fill in the Name of the race (if it comes from a competition, it is already there) and the Timezone in which it takes place. Also check the Readings reception period start and Readings reception period end: devices are assigned to physical locations within this period.
- A race consists of at least one event, and the screen already includes one. Fill in the Name of event, the Distance and the Date; the date is used to calculate the age categories of the participants. To add more events, use the + Add button at the end of the events list.
Configuration elements
Now you must create the elements needed to configure each event: timing points, splits, waves, categories, attributes, types of team, awards… Each element has its own bar with an actions menu that opens when you click the three dots.
With the actions menu of each element you can:
- Create elements in bulk instead of one by one (Create).
- Import the element from another race (Import).
- Clear or delete the elements (Clear).
- Cut, copy or paste the element from one event to another within the same race configuration (Cut, Copy and Paste).
Create all the elements of the race configuration:
- Create the timing points for the event. This article explains how to configure timing points.

- Create the splits for the event. This article explains how to configure splits.

- Create at least one wave for the event. This article explains how to configure waves.

- Create the different categories for the event. This article explains how to set up categories.
- Create the attributes required to later extract specific rankings. This article explains how to configure attributes.

- Click Save. To start over, the Reset button clears the form.
3. Create a race by importing it from Sportmaniacs
If in step 4 of Add the competition you select a competition that exists in Sportmaniacs, the Competition already exists — Do you want to import competition data from Sportmaniacs into Copernico? dialog appears when the creation screen opens. Click Yes to fill in the configuration with the Sportmaniacs data.
You can also import it at any time with the Import race from Sportmaniacs button in the button column on the right. If you need to sign in with another Sportmaniacs account, use Change user.
Review the imported configuration, complete it if needed and click Save.
4. Create a race by importing another Copernico race
- Add the competition as explained in Add the competition.
- On the creation screen, click the Import race from Copernico button in the button column on the right.
- In the Import panel, search for and select the race you want to import.
- Click Yes in the Import races window.
- The creation screen shows the race information and the events configured in the imported race. Delete the elements you do not need for this race, change the names if necessary and check that all the information is correct.
- Click Save.
To import the configuration into a race that already exists, see Import configuration of another Copernico race.
Once the race is saved, you can continue with the rest of its configuration.
