Copernico allows timing several events at the same time or on different days. However, this is not the same as a race with a multi-event ranking.
Multi-event races are those in which one of the rankings is the sum of the rankings of other events.
In Copernico, a multi-event race is set up as a race of type Stages. Each stage (or each event that is added up) is an event of type Stage, and the accumulated ranking is an event of type General that groups the stages and sets which split of each one is added. The general event also has a Current Stage, explained in Timing. For step-by-step setup, see Setting up a race with sum of times from several events.
The first example of this type of event is a stage race, in which participants run a different stage each day. At the end of each day, a ranking of the day (stage) and an overall ranking with the sum of the times of the previous stages and the current one (general) must be published.
However, there are other multi-event races as well. For example, a mountain descent in which several sections are timed can be considered a multi-event race, since each section can be treated as a stage (event) within the set of events that are added up for the final time. For descents with stops, see also Splits with disabled segments.
Even a relay race, in which times are taken at the start and at the end of each leg, could be timed as a multi-event race, with each leg of the relay being considered an event within the final sum. This is only viable if each wave start is scheduled, with a new start shot; usually a relay script is used or, when each runner covers only part of the course, the runners swap the tag. For relays in which each runner covers the full course, see also Timing relay events using a script.
Finally, another example is a race with several qualifying events, in which a participant can qualify for the final. In that case, split the rounds into events: you can import the registrants into all the events and copy the qualifiers to each event, or import the participants into each of them. Which option to use depends on the qualifying format.
