Using a script, you can time relay events in which each participant completes the entire race course.
This script turns participant A's finish time into participant B's start time, participant B's finish time into participant C's start time, and so on. The Timingsense support team prepares the script and installs it in your race.
The following video explains how Copernico handles relay races in which each relay runner completes the entire course:
1. Race setup
Set up the race exactly as explained in the video:
- The race is configured individually for each participant, and the relay runners of the same relay are managed as a team type.
- When importing the participants, include their IDs in the format we specify. In the video example, a relay of four runners who complete the entire course, the ID associates the runners with the same bib number and a letter for each one.
- Each relay runner has their own tag.
- The first relay runner has the wave start; the start of the others is assigned by the script: the finish of one runner marks the start of the next.
This way, each relay runner has their own splits and full result, and in the rankings the sum of all participations gives the team result. Participants are timed both individually and as a team.
2. How to request the script
Request assistance at clientes@timingsense.com at least one week in advance. This service has a cost; ask about it when you request the script.

Let's see how you can time a relay event where the athletes, regardless of the number of relay runners, will complete the entire course, starting with one runner and continuing with the next when the first one reaches the finish line. With this service, you can automatically record the first relay runner's finish time as the start of the second runner. To do this, remember to request the creation of this script one week in advance. There may be an associated cost; we will inform you about this when you request the script.
We will configure the race individually for each athlete and manage all relay runners as a type of team. It is important to include the participants' IDs in the format we specify during the import. In this example, it is a race with four relay runners who complete the entire course. Here, include the ID needed to associate them, using the same bib number and a letter for each relay runner. In our case, the bib number was the same as the ID. Each one has an individual tag, and the first relay runner will have a wave start; the rest will be manual, since we assign them through the script.
The completion of one athlete marks the start of the next, and this continues in sequence. Let's see it in a race that has already been held: team number 10 has different start times that correspond to the wave times. The finish time is the start time of the next participant. When the second participant finishes, the next one begins, and so on, consecutively. As you can see, each one will have their splits and their full result. We can later see in the rankings that the sum of all participations shows us the result of the teams. This way, we can time them individually and as a team.
Remember that you need to request this script with one week of work, and it might have an associated cost.
