If each of the events is set up correctly, timing a general event is the easiest task.
In stage (multi-event) timing you can use all the Copernico features. For example, a stage race can include different types of events:
- A linear event, with one wave, 2 intermediate points and one finish.
- The next day, a time trial, set up as explained in Timing Time Trials.
- Another event with the start taken from the reading, set up for that type of timing (see Start time mode).
- And finally the general event, which adds up the rankings of the rest of the events.
How to set up the stage race and the general event is explained in Setting up a race with sum of times from several events.
1. Start the wave and move the current stage forward
Each day, or whenever timing of one of the events begins, simply start the wave (if needed) from the Wave editor (see Starting a wave from Copernico).
The general event has a current stage. When you start a wave of a stage that comes after the current stage of the general event, Copernico shows the Current stage forwarding message, with the text "You are starting a wave from a later event than the current group's event. Do you want to move the pointer forward?". Click Yes to make the new stage the current stage of the general event, to add it to the sum.
Copernico only asks this question when you start a pending wave of a stage after the current one:
- Starting or modifying a wave of a stage before the current stage does not change the current stage.
- Modifying a wave that has already started (Modify button) does not show the question and does not change the current stage.
2. Change the current stage manually
You can also change the current stage at any time:
- In the Wave editor: when you select the tab of a stage, the Current Stage control of the general event appears at the top, with one mark for each stage. Move the control to the stage you want and click Save. The button is only enabled if you have changed the stage.
- In the race configuration, inside the general event, in the Current Stage field.
3. Order of the events
As the race days go by, we recommend changing the order of the events in the race configuration and keeping the event you are timing as high up as possible. To move them, use the ↑ and ↓ buttons in each event's header.
We recommend this for these reasons:
- Copernico lists the events in that order everywhere. The report editor and the new participant form open on the first event, and the Wave editor opens on the tab of the first event with waves. In Participants, the event still appears first in the drop-down, after All events.
All other timing tasks work the same way:
- Create presets.
- Create documents and mark them as favorites.
- Customize the dashboard.
- Assign the timing devices to their locations.
- Start the waves.
- Publish results.
- Etc.
