Getting the awards of a race

Awards are the prizes configured for each event of the race. Creating them in Copernico gives you more control over the race: they are shown in the awards widget, in the awards section of the apps and in the reports you add them to. This article explains how to follow them during the race and how to prepare a report to print them.

First, configure the awards of each event in Race setup: expand the event and, in its awards section (Awards), create one or more award blocks with their awards (name, split, number of winners, type and result mode). Remember that the Non-cumulative awards check box of each block is selected by default: this way nobody receives more than one award of the block. All the fields are explained in Trophies.

💡 To follow the awards during the race, add the Awards widget to the race Dashboard: for the event you choose, it shows how many positions of each award are already filled and links to the winning participants or teams. Its settings also include the public URL of the race awards. More information in Customizing the dashboard.

From the Reports page you can prepare a report to print the awards. Open (or create) the report and, in the designer, check in the top drop-down that the event whose awards you want is selected. Click the awards button (medal icon) in the button bar on the right: the Awards list panel opens. Awards are grouped (participant awards and Team awards); expand a group and click ADD (with the check mark) on each award you want to show, or ADD ALL to add all the awards in the group; each one is added as a table. You can add all of them or only the ones you need.

To print it, save the report and click the download button. In the Document: <name> window you can check the result with View PDF and print it from the browser, or download it. The options of that window (Categories, Gender, Generate one report per combination, Format…) are explained in Creating and printing reports.

A team is a set of participants grouped under a criterion. In Copernico, a club is purely informative data on which no calculation will be made. Therefore, if there are rankings, either by team with the highest participation or by sum of times, you have to set up and import at least two columns: the team column and the team type column. The criterion that Copernico uses to assign a participant to a team is the event plus team type plus team name. Under this criterion, a participant can belong to several teams.

To time a race in which the participants are going to run in teams, you must first add them in the event setup. You can click on the plus sign to add a team. Teams cannot be created in bulk; they can be imported from another Copernico race or another event.

Fill in the team type information: first a unique name and then the type of calculation. Your options are sum of times, athlete counter [today, Participants counter], sum of times by gender, time of the athlete in the position X in the team [today, Time of the participant in the position (x) in the team], time average, sum of times by gender with minimums [today, Sum of times by gender and with minimums], sum of positions and sum of points by gender. Depending on which one you select, you'll have different information to fill out. For sum of times, for example, you'll be required to say how many athletes will be classified within this team [today, Participants required to classify].

Something that's very important when you are assigning participants to a team is that this happens with the import file. You must make sure that the team name appears exactly as it does in Copernico. For example, “team 1” is not the same as “team-1”: it has to be the same, character for character.

Trophy setup. Trophies are awards that are set up to be displayed in the trophy widget in the app. You can insert trophy presets in documents, but trophy presets are not editable. [Today, awards are added to reports from the Awards list panel of the designer.]

To create a trophy, click on ADD. Make sure to give it a name, and you have to decide if it's going to be cumulative or non-cumulative [today, the Non-cumulative awards check box of each block, selected by default]. Non-cumulative means that within this block of awards an athlete can only win one. But, for example, if I created another block, say it was local, they could win an award in the first one and in the second one. In terms of the different awards within one block, priority is given to the ones at the top, so here the general categories have priority over veteran or local.

To add a trophy, you can just click on the add button. You can also add trophies in blocks, or in bulk, from here. The elements of a trophy are the name, the applicable split, which does not have to be the finish line, the number of awards and the type of award. If you add General, there's nothing else to do, but these other types of awards have a little bit more information; for gender, for example, it will ask which gender is associated with the award.
