A wave is a given point in time from which all the official times of the participants assigned to that wave are calculated.
Waves are created within an event, in the Waves block of its configuration.
1. Ways to create waves
In the event's Waves block you can create waves in several ways:
- One by one, with the + Add button.
- Several at once, with the Create option in the block's action menu. Enter how many waves you want, a name prefix (optional; the waves are numbered: “Wave 1”, “Wave 2”…), the interval in minutes between them and the time of the first wave (by default, the event date).
- By importing them from another race that you already have in Copernico, with the Import option. Imported waves arrive as not started.
- By moving them from another event of the same race, with the edit options Cut, Copy and Paste.
The Clear option removes all the waves from the list.
2. Wave information
Complete the wave information:
- Wave name (required): if you have more than one wave, choose a name that tells them apart.
- Start date and time (required): it defaults to the time of the event's last wave or, for the first one, the event date. The time can be approximate, since on race day you can modify it when you start the wave: clicking Start saves the actual time. More information in Starting a race from Copernico.
3. Deleting a wave
You can delete a wave by clicking on the trash can icon.
The event's waves are now created and ready to be started on race day.

4. Video transcript
Let's talk about waves in Copernico. A wave is what we call a group of participants who start at exactly the same time. A race can have one or multiple waves, and we can have them in the same location, but each participant can only be assigned to one wave.
To get started, go to the event section under race configuration and, under Waves, click add [today, the + Add button]. Make sure to enter the name you want, for example "Wave 1", and the date and the time [on screen, Wave name and Start date and time]. You can add as many waves as you want; make sure that the times are estimated and that they are different. Always press save.
Here on the sidebar, under waves, you should be able to see both of the waves we just configured, and on the day of the event you can press Start. You'll see that the wave name and time correspond with the ones we just configured.
Let's say that you want to have one wave for multiple events. We have set up the wave here, "Wave 1", starting at 3:00 on this date, and in my second event I can set up the exact same wave. Click save and you'll see here that they have the exact same wave and there's just one.
