Custom variables for documents

Custom variables let you use information in your documents that changes from one race to another. Each race has its own variables: if two races have a variable with the same name, the same document shows the value of each race.

For example, you can use a custom variable to add the name of the city where the race is held, or a dynamic footer in your documents.

1. How to create a custom variable

In the general information of the race configuration, expand the Custom variables section and click the "+" button.

Then:

  1. In Variable, enter the variable name. Always use exactly the same name in every race so that documents can find it. For example, "FOOTER" for the footer of the documents where it is used.
  2. In Type, choose Text or Image. In this example, footers are usually of type image.
  3. In Value, enter the text or, for an image variable, choose the image for this race.
  4. Click Save.

By using custom variables, you can create complex documents where certain information changes between races, such as:

  • City
  • Water temperature
  • Names of the judges
  • Images that change between races (other than the race image)
  • Any other data you may need

2. How to use it in a document

Image variables appear in the document designer, in the Select image panel (image icon in the right bar), with their name, a preview and a "+" button: click it to insert the image into the document. When the document is opened in another race, it shows that race's image. For more information about the designer, see Creating and printing reports.
