With Rankings you can publish to the cloud the rankings of each event of your race, calculated with the criteria you need (overall, gender, category, attributes, splits, teams…), and display them on the race website or on Sportmaniacs through a widget.
The goal is to create more complex rankings than the standard ones. For example, by combining the local attribute and the category, you can get rankings of local participants by category. This way of publishing covers results for teams, triathlons, special rankings (attributes) and many other needs, explained through examples below.
In addition, the widget can be adapted to rankings web pages via CSS.
It is compatible with the classic publication of results on Sportmaniacs, the native one in Copernico. Your race has no team rankings or attributes? You can continue publishing results on Sportmaniacs as before.
You will also be able to use both publications in Sportmaniacs, although if you do this, custom rankings will take precedence over the classic publication of results.
This article explains how rankings are published and what each section of Custom mode means. For the configuration (Auto and Custom modes, templates, preview and media), see Rankings Settings — Help Guide.

1. Types of rankings publication
From Copernico you can publish the results of a race in several ways:
- Upload rankings to Sportmaniacs (classic publication). Publication is limited to the fields available on Sportmaniacs. Teams and attributes are published via PDF.
- Rankings publisher, after configuring the rankings. It uploads the rankings configured in the Rankings tab to the Timingsense rankings platform. This platform can be connected via API to consume the data in third-party apps, or the rankings can be embedded, through their widget, in Sportmaniacs or in third-party websites.
- Export presets and reports (PDF, Excel, CSV…). You can export any preset available in Copernico and any report, and publish them yourself.
In any case, all three ways require a manual publishing process: you must publish again when the data changes. This is the main difference with Live, in which results are displayed and updated in real time.
The rankings of the classic Sportmaniacs publication are neither exportable nor customizable: the information that Sportmaniacs displays by default is published and no other field can be added. With rankings, instead, you choose both the methods to calculate the rankings and the fields to display.
2. How rankings publication works
Here is a graphic representation:
The process is as follows:
- In the race settings, Rankings tab, review each event's configuration and click Save.
- Open the Rankings publisher panel (cloud-with-arrow icon in the race bar).
- Select the events to publish. To show them on Sportmaniacs too, choose the Sportmaniacs race (sign in if asked) and turn Sportmaniacs on for each event.
- Click the publish button. If a selected event is not finished, Copernico asks for confirmation and finishes it before publishing. Publishing runs in the background.
- To display the rankings on a website, click the event's code icon (or the code button for all events) and copy the widget HTML code. You can choose the widget version. The code is available at any time, not only after publishing.
- View the widget on Sportmaniacs or on the website where you inserted the HTML code.
Configure and save the rankings before publishing them. You can do it before or after the race.
As you can see in the image, from Copernico the manual upload is done either to Sportmaniacs or to Rankings. In both cases, each tool has a widget that can be published on a third-party website. In addition, in the case of Rankings, you can connect to the platform via API.
3. How rankings are configured
Rankings are configured in the Rankings tab of the race settings, per event: if you have several events, each one has its own configuration.
Each event starts in Auto mode: rankings are generated automatically from the event configuration and nothing needs to be done. To edit them, switch the event to Custom: you will see the generated families and can modify them (rankings will no longer update automatically when the event changes). Modes, templates and preview are explained in Rankings Settings — Help Guide.
If the race has no saved rankings yet, the tab shows the warning This competition has NO custom rankings yet. Click Save to store the configuration in the race.
In addition, if the race has teams, a team rankings family is generated automatically when publishing. It does not require configuration, although team rankings cannot be customized.
In Custom mode, the filters and the fields that will be displayed in the table published in the widget are also shown.
Rankings publishes the results with the configured column headers. Column header names are changed on the page where you publish the results.
4. What each section of Custom mode means
When an event is in Custom mode, each rankings family has these configurable sections:
- Family. Groups rankings into a "family"; the name can be repeated. For example, you can create a rankings family for the total split of the race or for one of the specific splits.
- Discipline. Sport discipline of the rankings family.
-
Splits mode. Sets the splits in which rankings are generated:
- Select specific splits: splits are chosen by name in Splits.
- Select splits by type: choose the Split types to include.
-
Group-By Rules. They refer to the necessary segmentations:
- Rules: the list of fields, or combinations of fields, by which a ranking is generated. Add as many as you need; for example, gender, category or attribute.
- Include Ungrouped: to get a ranking with all participants, regardless of the rules (the "overall"), leave this option checked.
-
Filters. They are applied before generating the rankings; for example, to generate rankings only for participants who have finished the race. Filter types:
- No filter (all participants apply).
- List of conditions: choose whether All conditions must be met or At least one condition must be met, and define each condition with a field, an operator (Complies, Does not comply, Is empty, Is not empty…) and a value.
- Status-based filter: choose the participant statuses that are published.
- Javascript code: a function that decides whether each participant is included.
-
Sorting. The criteria by which participants are sorted in the ranking. Configuration mode has three options:
- Status-based (default for new families): sorts by Status Order Fields and Time Field (Gun Time or Chip Time).
-
Simple: set up Fields, evaluated in order. Each one has a Field Source and a Direction (Ascending or Descending):
- Split: the split selected for the family. It is sorted by time, net time, location, raw time or position.
- Participant: lets you select any of the participant fields.
- Advanced: insert a JavaScript Weight Function to sort by the criteria you need.
- Publish Configuration. Choose the Fields displayed in the table and, for each one, how the value is shown (Renderer): Raw value, Time (hh:mm:ss), Status-based position (with its Status Mappings) or Custom renderer, a JavaScript function that transforms the published value. Participant data is uploaded to the rankings platform except ID document, phone and email; fields can be configured in the widget or requested via API.
5. What happens when you save and publish
Save the configuration and publish it from Rankings publisher: until then, rankings are not uploaded to the platform.
If rankings have been configured with the same criteria as the standard Copernico rankings (overall, gender and categories), both will be identical.
6. When to use rankings
Rankings can be used in the following cases:
- Always (Auto mode).
- Use Custom when there are complex rankings that are not calculated in the standard ones.
- When there are rankings of intermediate splits, for example, a hill climb time trial or a triathlon.
- Whenever you need to publish fields that are not included by default in the Sportmaniacs results publication, for example, to use fields that associate values such as country flags.
7. Practical examples
Publishing classic results with rankings
Publication of classic results (overall, gender, category, attributes and teams) using rankings, with the widget to integrate the results on the race website. This is the simplest case.
The most logical process is:
- Set up the race in Copernico for timing.
- Time the race.
- Once the race is finished, check that the rankings are the ones you need: each event's mode (Auto is usually enough for the classic publication), families, rules and filters. Why after the race is finished? In case any change is made to the configuration that affects how rankings are generated.
- Save the configuration.
- Publish from Rankings publisher (remember that published events are finished).
- Copy the widget HTML code and paste or send it. It is available at any time from the panel.
Publishing the results of a triathlon or duathlon
The process is explained assuming that no positions are generated from the start to each of the points. The rankings will be for the swim, bike and run splits.
If the race has Live timing, the leaders will be shown in the leaders section.
- Set up the race in Copernico for timing, especially the splits. A classic configuration would look like the example image:
There are three splits in which rankings are generated and a final split from the start to the finish line.
- Time the race.
- Once the race is finished, check that the rankings are the ones you need: check in the preview (eye icon) that the swim, bike and run families are generated, or switch the event to Custom. The basic configuration includes all splits, Include Ungrouped checked and the gender, category and event attribute rules.
In this example, the status filter includes running and finished participants, sorting is by split in ascending order, and the published fields are position, bib, first name, last name, club and split time.
- Save the configuration.
- Publish from Rankings publisher (remember that published events are finished).
- Copy the widget HTML code and paste or send it. It is available at any time from the panel.
They can be displayed as shown in the following images.
In the summary tab you can see event information such as the podium, the percentage of finishers by category or the time of the last finisher.
In the rankings tab you can see the table with the fields configured to be visible, as well as the different segmentations configured; in this case, gender, categories and different attributes.
8. Publishing again
If times change or you add fields after publishing, publish again from Rankings publisher. If you also publish on Sportmaniacs, turn Sportmaniacs on for the event so both publications stay up to date. More information in Re-Upload Rankings.
Video transcript
(Translation of the Spanish video.)
[Music] Once we have finished the event and have set up the rankings publication in our race (in Rankings we have saved the configuration we want), from any menu, in the rankings publication shortcut, we can open it and publish the ranking for the first time. There is an event selector; we can have several events. In this case there is only one, so it is grayed out. We click reload [today, the upload button of the Rankings publisher panel; when publishing, Copernico finishes the selected events] and, when the process ends, a green notice tells us that the ranking has been published.
Once the ranking is published, we have the option of embedding the ranking widget in Sportmaniacs. We log in to Sportmaniacs with our user, look for the race where we want to publish this ranking [Music], select the event, and this hides the classic Sportmaniacs ranking in our race and publishes the custom ranking.
