A backup line is an additional line for reading tags that can go before or after the location line. In case an athlete does not have a reading on that line, Copérnico will use the backup reading to calculate his passing time.
Adding a backup
By clicking on the pencil icon of a timing point you will access the advanced editor, where you can add a backup to this point.
- Access the “Race Setup” section in the left side menu.
- Display the event for which you want to configure your splits.
- Display the “Splits” section.
- Click on the pencil icon of the split for which you want to add a backup line.
- Click on “Add” in the backup section.
- Complete the backup information.
- Backup device identifier: backup timing point.
- Backup position: backup location with respect to the point (before or after).
- Distance from timing point: the time the athlete takes between the backup and the point. It’s an approximate value for Live. When you end the race, Copérnico will perform the calculation automatically.
Calculation of backup time in Copérnico
For athletes who only have the backup reading in a split with configured backup, Copérnico calculates their passing time through the timing point. For each of these athletes, Copérnico calculates in two different moments.
- During the race: the time is calculated based on the backup reading adding/subtracting the offset that you have specified in the configuration.
- At the end of the race: a calculation is made based on all readings of the location to improve the accuracy of the estimate. At the end of the race, thanks to all the information collected, the intelligent algorithm can make this adjustment.
Due to this second calculation, it is possible that when you finish a race the times of an athlete will be modified. In any case, at the end of the event you will get a summary with all the times that have been modified.
