Copernico cloud

This article explains when you can create the race directly in Copernico and when the race also needs to exist in Sportmaniacs.

1. Introduction

We have made changes to race management to make it easier to create races and, in turn, to connect devices to the different locations.

With this change it is no longer necessary to create the race in Sportmaniacs and then import it into Copernico.

If you are only going to time the race, you can create it directly in Copernico: in Races, click Add competition, search for the competition and, if it does not exist on any platform, create it from scratch. If the competition already exists in Sportmaniacs, Copernico shows the Competition already exists message and offers to import its data. This article explains how to create a race in Copernico.

On the creation screen you can also import the configuration from Sportmaniacs (Import race from Sportmaniacs) or from another Copernico race. Importing replaces whatever you have entered in the form.

We have made these changes in order to separate:

  • Registrations (Sportmaniacs).
  • Cloud (for the moment, shared by Sportmaniacs and Copernico).
  • Timing (Copernico).

2. What does it mean that the cloud is shared by Sportmaniacs and Copernico?

It means that, for the moment, both the Sportmaniacs cloud and the Copernico cloud are used.

So, if you do not use Copernico, you must continue configuring the cloud in Sportmaniacs, as you have done so far.

On the other hand, if you use Copernico, you can skip the step of creating the race in Sportmaniacs to set up the cloud.

Also, on any of the TSOne / TS2 or Classic Loop Box timing devices, both the locations that exist in Sportmaniacs and those created in Copernico will be displayed.

⚠️ Important: if you still work by first creating the race in Sportmaniacs and importing it into Copernico, be careful when assigning the timing devices to the correct location, especially if you make changes directly in Copernico.

3. When is it necessary to create the race in Sportmaniacs?

You will need to create the race in Sportmaniacs in these three cases:

  1. If you do not use Copernico: Sportmaniacs is still the cloud you must use.
  2. If you want to add information in the race app, such as the Sportmaniacs linked rules or the Sportmaniacs course. You do not need to create it if you add this information with buttons that link to external websites.
  3. If you want to publish results in Sportmaniacs, as you have done so far.

If you are only going to publish results in Sportmaniacs, the race just needs to exist there when you publish. It is not necessary to:

  • Create it before the start.
  • Create events, timing points, locations, etc., since the events and other data are created when you publish the results from Copernico.

4. Why does the race need to exist in Sportmaniacs to publish results?

Results are published to a race that already exists in Sportmaniacs: you select that race and publish to it. Copernico cannot create a race in Sportmaniacs, even if it is only to publish its results.

To publish in Sportmaniacs:

  1. In the race, open Rankings publisher from the button column on the right.

  1. If no Sportmaniacs race is linked yet, None yet is shown. Click Link race, log in to Sportmaniacs if prompted and choose the race.

  1. Turn on Upload to Sportmaniacs for the events you want to upload. While no race is linked, this option is disabled. Publishing finishes the selected events.

ℹ️ Note: if you do not need to publish in Sportmaniacs, Copernico publishes its own rankings from Rankings publisher and gives you the code to embed them on your website (Get embed code).

This way you can decide, for each race, whether Copernico is enough or whether you also need to create it in Sportmaniacs.
