When a participant has no time at a timing point (for example, because no reading of their tag was recorded there), Copernico can estimate it from the time editor with the Generate time button. The estimate is based on the passing times of the participants in the same event, so it works better the more timing points the event has and the more participants there are in the race. The video in this article shows how to do it.
1. How to generate the time
- Double-click the empty cell of the timing point, in the Participants table or in the participant's times table. The Time editor of window opens, followed by the participant's name, surname and bib. If the participant has withdrawn or has another invalid status, a warning is shown before the editor opens: click Edit times anyway to continue.
- If Copernico can estimate the time, the message Copernico can generate this timing point's time predictively for you and the Generate time button are shown. If they are not shown, there is not enough data to estimate it: enter the time manually or choose one of the participant's Readings.
- Click Generate time. The estimated time is shown in the time field (locked while the auto display is selected) and in Resulting time.
- Check the Resulting time and click Save. The generated time is not saved until you click it.
⚠️ Important: if you close the editor without saving, Copernico asks “Changes will be lost. Do you want to save changes now?”. OK saves the time; click Cancel to discard it.
ℹ️ Note: for the other options of the editor, see Editing times.
2. Demonstration video
ℹ️ This video was recorded with an earlier version of Copernico; some screens may look different today.
Once saved, the participant has the generated time at that timing point.
