Sending readings to Copernico

There are different ways to send time readings to Copernico:

1. Sending readings from Timingsense timing devices

Since mid-2020, Copernico has been working in a serverless environment. This allows readings to be sent directly from the cloud to Copernico, without any intermediate software.

To send readings, the timing devices must be connected remotely, all of them connected to the internet. This article explains how to connect the devices remotely.

If the race uses Cloud V2 (the default for new races), you must also assign each device to a race location in the Devices tab of the race configuration, with the period in which its readings are exported. See How to configure devices in Copernico with Cloud V2 and How to switch Copernico to Cloud V2.

In Copernico, there are two ways to monitor the connected devices:

  1. The Timing devices widget on the dashboard (devices connected to Cloud V1). In races on Cloud V2, use the CLOUD V2 widget, which by default only shows active devices (see this article).

This widget is read-only; from its settings wheel you can filter by event and location.

  • For each location: location name, total readings, time of the last reading at that location and how many devices at that location are disconnected or have warnings or errors.
  • For each device: status (connected or disconnected; disconnected devices have a grey background), sync status (green icon if synced less than 8 hours ago; grey otherwise), total readings, unique readings, time of the last reading, battery level and temperature, CPU temperature and reader temperature and, finally, connected antennas. The metrics shown depend on the device type.
  1. The devices button in the right sidebar. The laptop icon opens the TS Cloud panel (Cloud V1, only in races linked to a competition), with the devices grouped by location and the number of connected devices in each. In races on Cloud V2, the monitor icon opens the CLOUD V2 panel.

From the TS Cloud panel you can rewind, apply an offset, sync the devices and pause or resume the reception of readings. The CLOUD V2 panel offers the same actions except sync.

If any timing device is not going to have an internet connection at its location, it can be configured in the same way and, once the device regains its internet connection, it will send the data to the cloud and the data can be downloaded.

2. Importing readings from a USB drive

ℹ️ Note: to obtain a readings file, you must export the readings from a timing device. This article explains how to export the readings stored in a timing device.

Once you have the reading session on a USB drive:

  1. On the race readings page (Raws), click the Raws Importer button in the right sidebar (upload icon).
  2. Drag or select the CSV file from the USB drive. Copernico accepts files from TSP, TSP2, TSOne and TS2 sessions, TSConnector, TSRex and Impinj readers; once loaded, it shows the detected file type, the number of readings and the first and last reading (in local time).

  1. If the file does not include the location, select in the Location field the race location the readings will be assigned to. Optionally, type the device name in the Device field (if left empty, it is recorded as “Imported”).
  1. Click the Upload button.

After this, the readings will be processed normally.

3. Sending readings from third-party timing devices

Copernico already uses third-party technology to offer you the best timing experience. If you want to know how, please contact our customer service department.

For example, Copernico can receive readings from ChronoTrack devices (see Connection Chronotrack devices with Copernico) and it can import files from Impinj readers (see the previous section).
