For Copernico to attribute readings to each participant, each one must have their tag assigned. This article explains the ways to assign tags and what to do with tags that have been read without being assigned to any participant.
1. Ways to assign tags
You can assign tags to the participants of a race in these ways:
- In the import file. Create a tag column in your import document (with the header “Tag” or “Chip” it is mapped automatically) and fill in the value for each participant. You have more information on how to do this in the article “Importing participants”.
- With a bib-tag sequencing. In the Chips sequencing tab of the race setup, configure a bib range and its corresponding tag range manually, or import a file with the bib and tag columns. You have more information in the article “Tag sequencing”.
- Manually, in the participant profile. When creating or editing a participant, clear the Automatic tag assignment check box and enter the tag in the Tag field. If the race has a sequencing, the check box is selected and the tag is assigned from the bib. A participant can have more than one tag. More information in Editing participants and Add participant manually.
2. Tags read without a participant
Tags that are not assigned to any participant but have generated readings may appear in a race. This could happen, for example, because a participant has been assigned a wrong tag or none at all. That participant will not appear in the rankings.
You can check the unassigned tags of a race on the race readings page (barcode icon button in the race bar). For each location and device, the table shows how many unique assigned (Unique tags assigned) and unassigned (Unique tags unassigned) tags have been read.
- Expand a row of the table. You will see the participants read and two lists: Unassigned tags in range and Unassigned tags out of range, with the number of tags in brackets.
- Expand the list and click a tag. Its page (Chip: …) opens, with all the readings for that tag.
- From the right sidebar you can:
- create a participant with that tag (New participant);
- add the tag to an existing participant (Associate participant). The tag is added to the ones the participant already has and their profile opens.
3. Create participants from tags
If there are many tags without a participant, you can create them all at once from the readings page:
- Click the tag icon button in the right sidebar. The Creation of tags without data panel opens.
- Choose the event to add the participants to.
- Enter the name pattern (Name pattern for created participants; “Tag: {tag}” by default).
- Select the tags in the lists of unassigned tags in range and out of range (Select all / Deselect all).
- Click Create tags without data.
One participant is created per tag, with the tag code as bib number, and the participant list opens with them so that you can complete their details.
With the tags assigned, the readings of each tag are attributed to its participant.
