Unidentified tags

In a race, tags that are not assigned to any participant may still have generated readings at some location. This article explains how to view them and how to create or associate participants from them.

This may happen, for example, because a participant has been assigned a wrong tag or has not been assigned a tag at all. In this case, that participant will not appear either in the live or in the rankings.

To review the ways of assigning tags, see Assigning tags to participants. For the rest of the readings page, see Race readings (raws).

1. View unassigned tags

You can view all the unassigned tags of a race on the race readings page (barcode icon button in the race bar). For each location and device, the table shows how many unique assigned (Unique tags assigned) and unassigned (Unique tags unassigned) tags have been read.

Each row of the table (a device at a location) has a drop-down, opened with the arrow on the right of the row, to see the status of the unique tags read.

When you expand the row, you will see what the device has read at that location, grouped as follows:

  • The participants read, that is, the tags associated with a participant.
  • Unassigned tags in range: unassigned tags that are within the configured sequencing of the race.
  • Unassigned tags out of range: unassigned tags that are outside the configured sequencing of the race.

The two lists of unassigned tags expand separately and show the number of tags in brackets.

2. Create or associate a participant from a tag

Clicking an unassigned tag opens its page (Chip: …), where you can see all the readings of that tag at every location. From the right sidebar you can create a participant with that tag (New participant) or associate the tag with an existing participant (Associate participant).

3. Create participants without data from tags

You can also create a series of participants without data from the unassigned tags. This lets you recover the readings of those tags.

Follow these steps:

  1. On the readings page, click the tag icon button in the right sidebar. The Creation of tags without data panel opens.
  2. The panel shows all the unassigned tags, in two lists: in range and out of range of the race sequencing.
  3. Choose the options:
    • The event where the participants will be created (Select an event to add participants to; the first event of the race by default). For example, if you know that a certain tag range belongs to an event, select that event to create the participants in it.
    • The tags: all of them are selected; clear the ones you do not want to use (Select all / Deselect all).
    • The name pattern for the participants (Name pattern for created participants), where “{tag}” is replaced with the tag code (“Tag: {tag}” by default).
  4. Click Create tags without data.

ℹ️ Note: normally only the tags within the race sequencing are used. Since all of them are selected when the panel opens, clear the out-of-range tags if you do not need them.

Copernico creates one participant per tag, with the tag code as bib number, and opens the participant list filtered by those tags, where you can continue working with the information of these new bibs: for example, assign their sex and category, change the event if needed and, if there is more than one wave, assign them a wave.

After that, the created participants are ranked like any other participant.
