Group signals panel

The group signals panel lets you view, on a single screen, the signals generated by the timing devices in the same export group. A group is usually made up of the timing devices that send reads to the same race, even if they are placed at different locations.

This article applies to the group signals panel in MyTimingsense, available from Devices › Dashboard. The panel shows the time of each signal and the timing device that generated it. What a signal means depends on what you want to mark with it: a start, a participant passing or any other moment of the event.

1. What is a signal and how is it generated?

A signal is the record generated when you press the timing device's macro button.

This button is located on the device's membrane, next to the LEDs. Do not confuse it with the power button. On the TS2 and TS1, this function is in the on-screen menu, under the Guntimes option.

You can use a signal to mark, for example:

  • The moment the start or wave begins.
  • The first woman passing kilometre 5.
  • Any other moment you want to record as a reference.
⚠️ Important: MyTimingsense receives and displays the signal. Generating it does not automatically set a start or Guntime in the timing software. To use it as a start time, the timer must perform the corresponding operation in Copernico. In other software, it depends on how those programs handle these signals.

ℹ️ Note: signals are not tag reads either. A signal appearing in the panel confirms that it has reached the cloud, but it does not tell you whether the timing device is reading tags.

2. What is an export and which devices make up a group?

An export is the setting that tells a timing device where to send its reads.

When you configure the timing devices for a race from Copernico or TSConnector, each device has at least one export to a location in that race: start, finish or an intermediate point.

For example, a race may have one timing device at the start, another at kilometre 5 and another at the finish. Each one sends its reads to its corresponding location.

An export group usually brings together the timing devices that point to locations in the same race. The panel lets you view the signals from all those devices without opening them one by one, sorted from newest to oldest.

You can find more details in the article What is an "export"?.

ℹ️ Note: if you only need the signals from one specific timing device, use its public page.

3. Where to find it

  1. Open MyTimingsense › Devices › Dashboard.
  2. Find the group you want to view.
  3. Click Start times, next to the group name and its number of devices.

A side panel opens. Clicking this button does not collapse the group.

ℹ️ Note: although the button is currently called Start times, the panel shows the signals generated by the timing devices, regardless of what you have decided to mark with them.

ℹ️ Note: if a group does not have this button, it usually contains timing devices with no export destination assigned.

4. What the panel shows

4.1. Header

At the top you will find:

  • Group and number of devices: identify the timing devices whose signals you are viewing.
  • Period queried: set by the group's exports and runs up to the current moment.
  • Latest page / History: shows whether you are viewing the most recent signals or browsing earlier ones.
  • Live connected / Connecting: shows the status of the real-time connection.
ℹ️ Note: the last two indicators are independent: browsing the history does not mean the connection has been lost.

4.2. Last received

The Last received block shows the last signal received live, with its time, the moment it reached the cloud and the timing device that generated it.

Until the first one arrives, you may see the message "Connected and waiting: no detection has arrived yet". In this panel, it means that no live signal has been received yet.

4.3. Signals table

Column Description
Time Time associated with the signal.
Received in the cloud How long ago the signal reached the cloud. Hover over it to see the exact date and time of receipt.
Device Timing device that generated the signal.

ℹ️ Note: the time of the signal and the moment the cloud receives it may differ.

5. Times: local time or UTC

The Times selector lets you choose between Local time and UTC. The panel opens in your local time.

This setting applies to every time shown in the panel: the table, the period queried and the Last received block.

6. Live signals

While you are on Latest page, new signals appear automatically as they arrive. You do not need to refresh the panel.

When you load older signals, the panel switches to History. To see new signals live again, click Refresh.

7. Filter by device

The Filter by device option shows only the signals from the timing devices you select.

The filter applies to the signals already loaded. When you clear it, all loaded signals for the group are shown again.

ℹ️ Note: if a timing device appears as a code instead of a name, its identifier is being shown. This can happen with bubbles or with devices deleted after they exported data.

8. Load more and refresh

  • Load more shows the next block of earlier signals. Below the list you can see how many have been loaded and when there are no more left within the period queried.
  • Refresh returns to the latest page and removes from view any earlier blocks you have loaded. It does not delete the signals.

Earlier signals are loaded only when you click Load more. The relative receipt text, such as "2 minutes ago", updates automatically.

⚠️ Important: if loading fails, the signals already on screen are kept. You will see a warning with a Start over button.

9. If no signals appear

Some current panel messages use the word guntime to refer to these signals.

Message What it means and what to do
"This group hasn't started collecting data yet" The export period is scheduled to start later.
"No guntimes have been recorded in this group's export period" There are no signals in the period queried. If you expected one, check that it was generated with the macro button or the Guntimes option, and review the timing device's transmission and exports.
"No guntimes match the selected devices" The filter is hiding the signals. Clear or change the selected devices.
"No exports match this consumer and identifier" No exports were found for this group. Review its configuration.

ℹ️ Note: no signals does not mean the timing device has stopped reading tags. If nobody has generated a signal, the panel may be empty even though the device is timing normally.
