A race with laps is one with two or more timing points, at least one of them intermediate, that share a physical location. An example would be a race in which the 5K and the finish line are in the same location.
If a participant is missing a time at one of the timing points of this location, the time of the next lap's timing point will be assigned to it. In our example, the participant has no time for lap 4: the finish time has been assigned to this lap and the finish has no time.
In these cases, you can move the reading to the correct timing point and Copernico will make a calculation for the timing point that has no reading.
- Go to Participants from the left-hand menu.
- In the time columns, drag the time from the cell of the wrong timing point to the cell of the correct one, in the same participant's row. This only works between timing points that share a physical location; the dragged time must be later than the previous passes through that location, otherwise Copernico shows a warning and makes no change. You can also do it in the times table of the participant's readings page.
- When you drop the time, the Validate calculated times panel opens on the right, listing the Automatically calculated times: in our example, the estimated passing time of the participant for lap 4. Select the check box of the calculated time and click Validate only if you want that time to be taken into account in the results.
The time calculated by Copernico will appear in the lap column.
You can also double-click the empty lap cell: the time editor lists the participant's readings with the timing point each one was assigned to and, if Copernico can estimate it, the Generate time button.
To undo the change, select only that participant, right-click and choose Participant's issues (exclamation icon). The Participant's issues panel opens: delete the issues of the two actions you performed (the drag and the validation) with the delete button (trash can) and confirm. You can also use the Issues button (exclamation icon) of the right-hand bar, which lists the issues of the whole race, or, from the participant's readings page, the exclamation button of its side menu. For more information about issues, see Managing issues.
