Unique athlete ID

The Unique participant id (“id”) uniquely identifies each participant of a race in Copernico. It is free text: it can be a number, the bib number or the code used by your registration platform.

You can import this value together with the participants. If you have no identifier of your own, you can use the bib number: duplicate the bib column in your spreadsheet and name the new column “id”.

The data is mapped when importing participants: Copernico automatically maps the “id” column to the unique identifier; if the column has a different name, select Unique participant id in Field to assign.

If you do not import it, Copernico automatically generates a unique identifier for each participant.

In both cases, when you export from Participants with Export CSV file, the identifier appears in the first column of the file, followed by the columns of the active view. The image above shows an example of an identifier generated by Copernico. This export is the easiest way to get the identifiers to prepare a modification file.

This is an important field as it is used in:

1. Participant following: when a person marks a participant as a favourite in the Live app or website, the unique identifier allows modifications or updates to be made without followers losing their favourites.
2. Updates or modifications of participant data: when you import a file to modify the existing participants, Copernico finds each participant by their unique identifier or by their event and bib number. Use the identifier when you need to change the bib number or when participants have no bib number. Rows that do not match any participant are added as new only if you select Add new participants not found in the system. See Replace or modify the participant database in Copernico.
3. Importing times: imported times are assigned to the participant found by their unique identifier (or by their event and bib number). See Importing athlete times.
